Just a block away from the Kodak and Chinese Theatres, MINI promises ‘Live and Exotic Topless Thrills 24/7’ at the MINI Roadster Peepshow Spectacular. MINI has taken over a corner store on Hollywood Blvd. and masked all the windows for a 25-day long series of fleeting, revealing shows where passers-by are encouraged to take a ‘peep’.

Each show is triggered whenever a passing spectator presses one of the ‘peep’ buttons on the display, rolling back a window blind and unveiling the MINI Roadster as it rotates slowly on a turntable, complete with a disco ball above, music and smoke. Adding authentic atmosphere to the MINI Roadster Peepshow Spectacular, colored neon lighting has been placed throughout the Peepshow to illuminate the Roadster even more.

Passers-by in this pedestrian-friendly area are lured to the Roadster Peepshow by storefront signage with racy messages such as: ‘Bada Bing, Bada Boom’, ‘Open 24 Hours’ and the simple, tempting command to ‘Peep Here’.

“The new MINI Roadster is a devilishly fast, uncompromising two-seater soft-top with the soul of a sports car and the heart of a MINI,” says Jim McDowell, vice-president MINI USA. “Our Peepshow reveal in this prime Los Angeles location sets the scene perfectly for our latest model which delivers more fun than one person can handle with its exhilarating ride and unlimited headroom.”

The MINI Roadster Peepshow Spectacular is surrounded by hot nightlife spots including MyHouse, Teddy’s, Tropicana Bar, Mood LA, East Lounge, Supper Club, Roxbury and Rolling Stone LA.

MINI USA partnered with Pearl Media LLC and Czarnowski on the execution through agency partners OOH Pitch and Butler Shine Stern & Partners.

Most Innovative Technology and Best Branding Campaign

At MediaPost’s Digital Out-of-Home Awards on Wednesday, April 11, Pearl Media, Starcom & Goodby, Silverstein & Partners, took home the Most Innovative Technology Award for its work with Chevy, creating the first-ever interactive 3D projection. For the Best Branding Campaign Award Pearl Media and The Richards Group were recognized for their innovative work with Patron.

Pearl Media’s winning campaign for Chevy took place in December 2011 when they executed the first-ever interactive 3D projection and set a Guinness World Record for the World’s Largest Claw Game. Using the latest in 3D interactive technology, consumers were able to navigate the giant 3D projected claw using a human-sized stick shift set up in front of Hollywood Boulevard’s famous Roosevelt Hotel—on which the claw game was projected. Hundreds of people took control of the stick shift in an attempt to grab one of many prizes including a dream vacation, a trip to SXSW, a Burton Snowboard or $100 in Live Nation concert cash. One lucky winner walked away with the grand prize—a 2012 Chevy Sonic.

The company’s award-winning campaign for Patrón Tequila, was in support of Patrón’s “Simply Perfect” campaign. In New York’s Soho, Hollywood, Chicago’s Gold Coast, and San Francisco’s Union Square, artist studios were set up in storefront windows visible to street pedestrians, where 30 up-and-coming artists created original artwork inspired by their personal interpretation of Patrón’s “Simply Perfect” tagline. QR Codes were integrated to drive traffic to the online auction site where consumers could bid on the completed artwork, with proceeds going to local art organizations in each city.

Event Industry Veterans Hired to Lead Full-Service Event Production Division

NEW JERSEY – March 19, 2012 – Pearl Media, a leading out-of-home media company that creates immersive brand experiences through the use of emerging technologies, today announced the launch of Pearl Media Productions (PMP), a new division dedicated to full-service event production. Pearl Media has hired event industry veterans Scott Justis, Justin Fortier and AJ Freysteinson to lead PMP.

“Our mission is to translate a brand’s vision into a consumer’s reality by creating 360-degree experiences that can be seen, felt, heard and enjoyed far beyond their initial location.
Known for embracing emerging technologies and currently the U.S. leader in 3D projection mapping, Pearl Media identified an opportunity to offer clients a one-stop destination for full-service event solutions. Unique services provided by PMP include expanded 3D event solutions, ranging from interactive 3D projection mapping and surface mapping to spherical video projection and spectacle creation, among others. Pearl Media and PMP together can create events that incorporate leading out-of-home technologies that enhance Pearl Media’s inventory of high-impact locations, or PMP can function as a standalone event producer.

“We are excited to become a part of the Pearl Media family. Over the past year, we have witnessed their award-winning campaigns for clients like Chevy, FOX, Hyundai and Lexus, and we look forward to bringing our event production experience and expertise to Pearl Media Productions. Our mission is to deliver solutions that live at the leading edge of innovation in and around live events that ultimately drive social media,” said Justis, Fortier and Freysteinson in a joint statement.

Justis joins PMP as Vice President of Sales and Marketing, while Justin Fortier will serve as Vice President of Operations and AJ Freysteinson will serve as Vice President of Technology and Research.

Immersive projections that transform buildings into canvases for incredible 3D graphics and images have been stunning audiences across the globe for the past few years, but Pearl Media took 3D projection mapping a step further for a Chevrolet event in Hollywood last December. They put attendees in control of the content.

In support of Chevy’s “Let’s Do This” campaign for the new 2012 Chevy Sonic, Pearl Media and Chevy teamed up to transform the well-known, arcade-style, prize-grabbing claw game into a massive 3D experience. That’s right, hundreds lined up on Hollywood Boulevard to control the enormous claw, which was projected on the side of the iconic Roosevelt Hotel.

“This project allowed the consumers to actually manipulate the results, the creative and what’s happening in the projection. We created a three-dimensional claw and allowed people down on Hollywood Boulevard to control it through a large joystick that was made to look like a Chevy gearshift knob,” says Pearl Media ceo Josh Cohen.

The challenges in pulling the event off were many. The Pearl creative team was not only creating an interactive projected game, but also a game of chance. Designers needed to make sure that people weren’t able to unfairly manipulate the game in any way.

“The first challenge was developing the game and the algorithms within the game to make sure that it really was a game of chance. Then it was a matter of making all of the technologies work together,” Cohen says.

Pearl Media specializes high-tech event technology such as 3D mapping, but adding this new interactive layer to the process was a new twist.

“The shift knob was located at street level, while the controls for the install were up on a rooftop adjacent to the hotel. We used 16 projectors that all blended together to look like one seamless image, so we had to make sure that those were all talking to each other and to the game in real time,” Cohen says.

The joystick was about four feet tall, and the Pearl team needed to make sure it was big enough so that people could manipulate it, but also sturdy enough that 400 to 500 people could play the game. The gearshift was very sensitive, with sensors built into the bottom of the joystick communicating the movement to the projectors. A foot pedal next to the shifter activated the claw itself, and attendees grabbed for prizes such as vacations, cameras, snowboards and the grand prize—a 2012 Chevy Sonic.

Pearl Media developed the content for the project in 11 weeks, so there was a tight deadline. The setup of the actual event on the street was also tight, as the team had just 30 minutes to block off the street, set up the stage and footprint and get things rolling. Two full nights of projection tests proceeded the event, which went off without a hitch.

“We had a line all the way down Hollywood Boulevard, and people waited 45 minutes to an hour to play. We normally get a lot of ‘wow’ factor with these projections, but this let them engage with the projection in a way that had never been done before,” Cohen says.

A Behind the Scenes Look at the Making of this Record Setting Event.

NEW JERSEY – January 19, 2012 – Pearl Media, a non-traditional, out-of-home media company and Chevrolet, today announced they set the Guinness World Record® for the World’s Largest

Architectural Projection-Mapped Game by creating the World’s Largest Claw Game! In support of Chevy’s “Let’s Do This” campaign for the all new 2012 Chevy Sonic, Pearl Media and Chevy teamed up to transform the well-known, arcade-style, prize-grabbing claw game into a massive 3D experience. Chevy Sonic – World’s Largest Claw Game.

On December 17, 2011, Pearl Media deployed the first-ever live interactive 3D projection, which allowed consumers to navigate a giant 3D claw using a human-size stick shift set up on the street in front of Hollywood’s famous Roosevelt Hotel—on which the claw game was projected. Leveraging leading edge technology with the use of projectors, advanced 3D technology, lighting, sound, shadows and animation mapped to the contours of the Roosevelt Hotel, the claw game projected off of the building and seamlessly re-created a massive version of the popular claw game.

“Pearl Media creates new, innovative and never-before-seen experiences for brands and consumers,” said Josh Cohen, President and CEO of Pearl Media. “Setting a Guinness World Record for Chevy aligns with our goal to push the envelope, making each out-of-home event unique, memorable and results driven. For the first time ever, we added interactivity to a projection and put the consumer in control, resulting in literally the world’s largest claw game.”

Hundreds of people played the World’s Largest Claw Game with more than 100 walking away with prizes including a dream vacation valued at $4,000, a trip to the famed SXSW Music Festival, a Burton Snowboard, mountain bikes, Go Pro Cameras or $100 in Live Nation concert cash. One lucky winner walked away with the grand prize—a brand new 2012 Chevy Sonic.

“These live art studios offer a unique opportunity for emerging artists to showcase their work to a much larger audience,” says Jennifer Long, Patron brand director. “At the same time, we hope to enhance the holiday season by bringing people the experience of artistic creation. We are thrilled to promote fresh talent and, with their help, enrich the local community. Their generosity of time and talent is a simply perfect gift to their cities, and we’re proud to amplify it.”

To view complete collections from all four cities, passers-by can scan the QR code located on the windows of each of the four installations. The QR code links consumers directly to the auction website, where they will be able to learn more about the artists and bid on their favorite works of art.

The artist whose work receives the highest bid will receive national exposure in a print advertisement for Patron in 2012. Additionally, the proceeds from the purchased pieces will benefit local art organizations that are partners on the project, including: the Chicago Artists’ Coalition; Los Angeles Art Association; New York Foundation for the Arts; and The Artists Guild of San Francisco.

Chevy is taking over Hollywood Boulevard in support of Chevy’s “Let’s Do This” campaign for the 2012 Chevy Sonic. Chevy has teamed up with Pearl Media, a non-traditional, out-of-home media company, to create the World’s Largest Claw Game—remember the arcade staple you loved as a kid—and attempt to set a Guinness World Record, as part of a live commercial shoot.

Re-creating the old school, prize-grabbing claw game, an interactive, human-sized joystick will be set up in front of Hollywood Boulevard’s famous Roosevelt Hotel, allowing passers-by to take control of the joystick and direct the giant claw towards one of many prizes designed for adventurous, thrill-seeking consumers, including a new car. One lucky winner will walk away with the grand prize 2012 Chevy Sonic.

WHAT: As part of a live commercial shoot, Chevy and Pearl Media will deploy an interactive claw game the size of the Roosevelt Hotel, attempting to set the Guinness World Record for the World’s Largest Claw Game and offering consumers the chance to grab for their favorite prizes, including a brand new car!

WHO: Chevy Sonic, the most fun-to-drive small car, and Pearl Media, a non-traditional media and production company specialized in creating unique, targeted, groundbreaking out-of-home experiences for leading brands.

WHEN: Friday, December 16, from 8:00 pm PST to 11:00 pm PST and Saturday, December 17 from 8:00 pm PST to 11:00 pm PST.

WHERE: On Hollywood Boulevard, in front of the Roosevelt Hotel, 7000 Hollywood Blvd. There will be a partial street closure where the giant claw game is taking place at Orange Drive.
